Herburg Roses have gotten various certificates on Sustainability. As all certificates are audited yearly by independent bodies, this has helped the organization to ensure that all required actions are taken and continuous improvement is warranted.

MPS A and SQ

In 2007 and 2008 Herburg has succesfully registered for the MPS A and SQ Certificates. The MPS A certificate shows that a minimum of chemicals are used and fertilisation is done in a proper manner. Furthermore all systems are geared up for proper use of e.g. water, waste and electricity.

Fairtrade

The Fairtrade Certificate, which has been obtained in 2014 incorporates alle MPS requirements as stated above. Next to this it adds a lot of activities which are beneficiary for the social environment, i.e. the employees, their families and the community. One of the requirements, which is added is the collection of the Fairtrade Premium (10% on gross sales). The Fairtrade Premium Committee is responsible for the managements of the projects funded by the Premium and consists of both the employees and management.

Fairtrade Premium Committee

Together with the achievement of becoming Fairtrade Certified, the Fairtrade Premium Committee has been installed. In this Committee both employees and management are represented. They have the responsibility to oversee the budget, which is generated through the premium on sales of the Fairtrade flowers. As quite a few members of this Committee are new to the field of project- and financial management, a regular training in these field is provided with by the Fairtrade liaison officer.

EHPEA Certificate (Bronze/Gold)

The Ethiopian Horticultural Producers and Exporters Association works together with the government and the growers to improve the horticultural industry. The EHPEA support education programs, support marketing activities and also developed methods to assure al flowers exported abroad has to meet the same requirements. EHPEA bronze is developed together with Globalgap. The golden certificate also includes the social standards.
