Our impact extends beyond our farms
With our Herburg Roses nurseries in Ethiopia and Nini in Kenya, we grow more than 200 million stems annually for customers in Europe and the United Kingdom. Together, we grow our roses on approximately 100 hectares.
Around 2,700 colleagues work on our roses every day, supported by a small team in the Netherlands. Thanks to the knowledge and experience of our colleagues, we can supply roses with strong colors and a good vase life, precisely tailored to the wishes of our customers.
By producing our roses as fairtrade, we can also give back to our employees and the local community.
Roses that are beautifully, fairly, and responsibly grown
Caring for the people behind our roses
Caring for the people behind our roses starts with the colleagues who work with them every day. We believe it is essential that they can work safely, understand their position, and are treated fairly.
A pleasant and safe working environment is a given for us. This commitment is independently assessed every year through various audits.
Conscious choices in cultivation and environment
To work more sustainably, we make many conscious choices. This starts with selecting rose varieties that are stronger and more resistant, and that are suitable for efficient transport to Europe by boat. Furthermore, sustainability is embedded in small, daily decisions on the farm, but also in larger choices in the chain, such as transport and the use of biological crop protection products.
We don’t promise perfection, but we do believe in getting better step by step. Since 2022, we have been measuring our footprint according to the EU calculation method (FloriPEFCR), which gives us insight into where we can still take steps.
Strongly connected to the community
We believe that cooperation throughout the chain is important. In consultation with our colleagues, we coordinate social projects in the communities around our nurseries.
We are proud of the initiatives we support, including access to specialized education, a daycare center, an on-site staff food store where groceries are available at reduced prices, and assistance with school fees for our colleagues’ children.
